The Rusnok looks nice, but has all the same limitations of a mill drill. No accurate way to move in the z direction, except the quill, which only has a travel of 1.5" or so. Back when I still had my Vernon horizontal I thought pretty hard about buying a new Rusnok head for it to create a mini-Bridgeport type machine.

The mill happy02 describes is manufactured by Rusnok. It is written up on Tony's lathes website. It is a very solid machine, and not to be compared with mini mills. I think it is still manufactured, and price will give you shivers. The Rusnok head has also been adapted to many horizontal mills to give them vertical capacity.

No direct experience, but many people seem to consider a Rusnok head on a Benchmaster mill to be a match made in heaven. One point to consider is that the Rusnok head will reduce vertical space vs. the original. Be aware that there are 2 types of Rusnok heads, the model 70 Convertical and the model ST Heavy Duty.

Rusnok makes a small benchtop mill. It is that mill's head you're talking about, but the Model 70 is the original design from the '50's. Was a combo vert/horiz unit. Many a Benchmaster horizontal mill (as well as other small mills) has a Rusnok vertical head added to it. If you want to see what a later model Rusnok mill looks like, go here....

This is cool & hopefully the end of my frustrations over horizontal mill limitations. Seller's pictures. Shop made stand - probably had an x-y table on it. I just picked up a Sheldon horizontal mill with a Rusnok vertical head that replaces the overarm and is powered by the motor in the base of the machine. The ways have a small step at the rear of the knee but the machine apears complete and in decent shape. Mill also has the quick change powerfeed.
